Logan’s First Birthday!
Well, to be RIGHT on track…our boy decided that he would WALK on his first birthday. This is a short snippet of him goign back and forth. He REALLY loves to walk to Maisy. This continued for about another half hour…him walking, then laughing and laughing and laughing.
His 1st birthday was a fun time for him! Below, there is a gallery of pics from the day. This picture was taken at EXACTLY 6:34, when he was exactly 1 year old!!
He had a GREAT birthday! He got a bag o’ balls from us, which he completely enjoyed…he’s also getting a sandbox, but mommy had to order that online. He ate his own cake, and had a great day earlier at Deanna rose, where he had his first ice cream cone (see below!)….
Happy Birthday, Baby!!!
Well, let’s see…9:07 one year ago today. I was laying in the hospital bed having contractions. Dialated to I think about 3…..In about an hour, they will be making me walk and walk, and that’s when we’ll really get moving…of course, then, Logan just decides to turn it around and go sideways, so we end up with a C-Section at 6:34. I can’t believe how big he is. It’s really quite un-real when I look at him. I seem to honestly be in a bit of a daze today…a little sad, maybe. That’s probably what it is…Maybe sad isn’t the word..just well, I can’t think of another one. I just can’t believe he’s already one. my little baby. I was putting all his 0-3 clothes in space bags yesterday (BTW, those things ROCK for storage….such a space saver!!!) and was just going ‘awwwww’ over and over again when i’d come across those outfits that he used to wear when he was first born…but then they were all too big. That certainly isn’t a problem anymore, that’s for sure! He’s napping now, and then we will be heading over to Deanna Rose…I probably should you know, take a shower, call sharon, but of course, I’m tootin’ around on the internet. Carrie, you were right on the bloggin. erg!!
I’m trying to figure out how to upload a video…that’s next on the ‘to-do’ list. But now, now, I better get my booty in gear.
Blog-Slacker
Yeah, yeah…it’s been awhile. Who’s really reading anyway…..besides you, shauna!!
I appreciate your attentiveness!!
One more day, and Our baby turns 1. It was a mere year ago today that I went into a state of ‘nestation’ and was scrubbing the bathroom floor on my hands and knees. And he and I have a fun day planned for tomorrow. After his morning nap, we are going to meet the Struve Girls at Deanna Rose for a picnic and some good photo ops. For those of you who dont know, deanna rose is a farmstead in overland park…that is free…and awesome!!!
Anyway, daddy should get off early that day, so we’ll do something with him…and then the Struve’s are coming over for dinner…to celebrate Logan AND Jeff’s B-Day…..Chicken Divan, Bruchetta and salad. And Of course, Logan gets his own cake. And Jeff has to share.
What else is going on? Well, I’m still scrambling to get the house clean, but you know, It’s just that I can’t seem to catch up. I clean one part, and another part tends to explode. By the time mom and dad gets here…hopefully it’ll be done….if not, I’m sure mom will help!!
nudge nudge, wink wink.
Nebraska Pictures
Here are a couple pics of Logan yesterday. This morning, he decided it was time to get up at 4:30 AM, so he is in a GRAND mood. Especially b/c his morning nap was only about 40 minutes…I wonder where the nearest starbucks is…..
I am SUCH a loser…and other stuff.
I went for a weigh in yesterday (Thursday) morning..which is, of course 2 days before my weigh in time..and I was DOWN 2.8!!! GO MELISSA!! It’s amazing what happens when you actually dedicate to the program. I left then this morning (Friday) to head up to Nebraska to Julie’s house…then sunday to mom’s house, then home on tuesday. Just Logan and I on this trek.
He did pretty well coming up, but I have determined that our car seat was designed by numbskulls. You know, usually, on a car seat, they can lay their head to the side and it will rest on the side of the seat. but no…not this one….it has a head-rest on it..which seems to come out to far, and his head just lobs around. It was sad..he kept crying because he’d wake up, and try to move his head back, and of course, it went nowhere. But he did great, considering. We only had to stop twice…once for a break for him, and once for lunch. (it’s a 4.5 hour drive). And boy does he love the Dorcey’s already. There are baseballs for him to throw a pool to splash in, and doggies and kitties! he was not overly eager to go to bed, but FINALLY I just got him down.
I think that’s about it. Julie and Todd are ‘dorm chaperones’ at a camp tonight, so it’s me, Tate, Kora, and Regan. we are watching the DISNEY MOVIE CAMP ROCK. It DEBUTs tonight….so I better get back to it!!
I got some wicked cute pics of Logan here already, so I’ll upload tomorrow!
Shin Splints
Sharon Tricked me. She called me at about 7 this AM and said ‘hey, you wanna go for a walk this morning?’. I of course said Absolutely. I got there about 8:30..we set out at 8:45…and lo and behold, we walked for an hour. YEs, yes, yes…it was good for me..and yes, yes, I did get 3 activity points for it (WW lingo there), but I still can pretend to be irritated about it. But I’m not. It’s all good. The girls rode their bikes ahead of us…go Maisy, by the way, who is doing AWESOME without training wheels. And, along the way, there was this guy putting a fisher price sensory table out on his curb to THROW AWAY. It’s the one that folds in half to store…plastic…has a boat trail on one side. We jumped all over that. So about an hour later, we were shoving a sensory table full of nasty sand in the back of the mini-van for sharon to put in their backyard. You are SO welcome Jeff!!
Oh, heard back from the Dr. Today. I do not have a fracture (yay!), but since my wrist is not improving even with anti-inflamatory medicine, they are sending me to a ‘hand specialist’. I cant help but think that this is going a little far….but at the same time, I also can’t help but be annoyed when my wrist hurts so bad I can’t hold the sippy cup tight enough to unscrew the top. Well, or it feels so weak and tired that I can’t. So I guess we’ll see. I won’t get in for about a month, so maybe in that time it will self-heal. You know, it could happen.
All kinds of stuff….swimming, teeth, gripes….
Let’s see, where to begin today. Well, Logan is trying to cut his second tooth. It’s ALMOST through the gum. ALMOST. just to the point where he’s totally irritated with everything. Poor guy. I’d probably be as cranky if I had a piece of jagged bone pushing through my skin. ouch. Anyway, as a result, he had a fever of around 102 all day yesterday, and then BARELY slept last night. He slept this morning..but then only took about a 30 minute afternoon nap. we’ll see how tonight goes. Poor lil’ fella….here’s a pic of his one/half tooth. Yes, I am also impressed of the pic I got.
What’s next? OH…swimming!! So, today, Ralph was off, so he was able to go with us to our second to last swimming lesson and get some great pictures! Logan was SHOWING OFF! It was so funny. he was flirting with EVERYONE that would look at him, and was smiling as big as he could whenever he saw a camera (divo!!). It was hilarious. He was SO tired, so it was extra lucky that ralph was there! I think that helped immensely!! Last week, I put him under water for the first time. This week, we did it about 4 times. He only got mad one time. Mostly, he just comes up in total shock, then laughs like a crazy man. Here’s some pics:
And my final annoyance of the day. The wrist update. Didn’t hear back all week on my X-Ray. So I called today..at 8:30 AM, I might add. They called me back at 5:41. That’s right FIVE FORTY ONE….I missed teh call by ONE MINUTE…and they said to call in the next morning to discuss. I’m so annoyed..and mostly in pain in the wrist. ERG! Anyway, just a small thing. I’ll be a star and move on. (what’s that mean, melissa? Well, go to the conscious discipline link and FIND OUT!)
Ralph’s Incredible Hulk Review
As almost everyone knows, this is the second version of the Incredible Hulk movie. The first Ang Lee version was an embarrasment to the character and an insult to comic fans everywhere. Marvel Comics knew that they had to get it right this time around, and they did. The relaunch was awesome. Did I say awesome? My mistake. This movie was…INCREDIBLE!
Admittedly, I am a biased, die-hard, Marvel fanboy who likes superheroes that many people have never heard of. However, I’m willing to bet that every child of the 70’s-80’s has some memory of the Incredible Hulk TV series starring the late Bill Bixby. Remember the opening sequence with the eerie, rapid piano staccato? David Banner seated inside that weird Cat-scan machine, with the deep voice of the narrator droning—”Dr. David Banner. Physician. Scientist. Searching for the inner strength that all humans possess.” Who doesn’t remember the closing scenes that always showed Banner trying to hitchhike down a lone country road? (Once again, the eerie piano playing.) If you remember this stuff, you are going to enjoy this movie.
Melissa has already said most of what needed to be said about this movie, so I really don’t need to go into much more detail, but I will say this: This movie offers no apology for the amount of physical violence present throughout, as it should not. The Incredible Hulk is the strongest Marvel superhero on Earth, he’s not going to be playing a lot of chess. So parents, you might want to watch this one with the kids.
I’m going to end with my statements as to the nature of the Hulk’s heroism. Yes he is a ten foot tall, 1500lb, radioactive, green-skinned embodiment of pure unbridled rage, but his heart is even more powerful. David Banner’s soul subconsciously steers this goliath’s rage towards good. The Hulk is a defender of the weak and a lover and protector of nature. He has never started any fight that he has been involved in. Even when police or military keep coming at him, he still chooses to run away (leap away) instead of staying to demolish everything. Given his choice, he prefers to be left alone entirely, and not have to deal with the puny humans. But, when evil does arise, when wrongdoers steer their path towards him, villains should heed that they will be dealing with the most efficient suerhero of all time. There will be no negotiations. There will be no arrest and trial. The Hulk will dole out immediate justice in his own particdular idiom. To quote the hero, “HULK SMASH! Problem solved. The day is saved. ‘Nuff said.
The INCREDIBLE Hulk

In the words of Stan Lee’s Character: “wow”. THIS is what the FIRST movie should have been. This was FANASTIC. Okay. So first of all, I LOVE Edward Norton. IF you have not seen the movie Primal Fear, go out and rent it right now. It’s amazing. Anyway, he is the perfect Bruce Banner. They did a nice job at the beginning giving the overall run-down of his origin and was thus able to jump right into a movie and some real action. According to Ralph (he may add more to this later), they did a nice blend on the story from the original comics to the TV series (which is totally awesome as well). They even had ‘the’ scene from the series, where he is hitching down the road, with the song..you know…the song…..do do do do….do do do do do….do do do do……I’m sure you have it down now.
Many, many scenes from this movie, I’ll say look like they were litrally torn from the cover of a comic book and slapped onto the screen. In Ralph’s words “I had to catch my breath a couple times, b/c I flashed back to childhood and thought that the comics were moving!”. They even go the Hulk to say ‘HULK SMASH!’…..overall, we give it 4/4 rings.
Oh, and by the way, no need to stay through the credits…they put that scene at the very end of the movie….Tony Stark’s Cameo.
I went back AGAIN
6:30 this morning, I got up, and headed into the Weight Watchers Meeting. It’s really frustrating when I’m back up to my all time high on my weight. ALL TIME. Yes, it’s distributed differently, but it’s there. I saw it on the weigh in. IT was like a punch in the face. I feel like I just can’t get my mind SET on the change. I start to get really irritated as to why I have to watch what I eat, and how I can look at something and gain weight, and how I have no self-control when it comes to mindless eating. But, this time, I’m trying to change my mind set. I’m going ‘old school’ back to when I lost 50 pounds….I’m looking up every point, I’m measuring again (you know 1 TB of creamer is NOTHING), and journaling on paper instead of on-line. Once I see some results, I’ll see if I can trust myself to get back online to journal, but right now, it’s way too easy to ignore that online journal…and to flub a little more. I even brought out the sharpie marker and started putting the point value on the food in the house. That’s what I did the first time.
I think this leader is better, too. she’s a little spastic, which works good for me. It’s a big meeting, lots of talkative people…also good. She was instantly supportive, so I feel like there was a connection. And, I figure, if I’m blogging my journey, then maybe I’ll be able to stick with it even further. So, pray for my strength, because we are going to cinzetti’s for fathers day dinner.
